TROIKA! is a science-fantasy role-playing game where you and your cosmopolitan group of fellow travellers explore the ends of the multiverse. You will fly on mystic barges, help dying gods, solve confounding crimes, plunder dead worlds, and meet strange & wonderful people.

This core book for TROIKA! has everything you need to start and stay playing for a long time: 36 backgrounds ranging from pond priests to lobotomised aristocrats, 70+ unique spells, 36 enemies each using our innovative mien system, and 1 tutorial adventure to get you players comfortable in this bright new world. And if one book isn't enough there is an enormous amount of supporting material, both official and fan-made, readily available from all respectable RPG outlets.

Inside the book you will find:

  • A fully automated character creation system that generates exciting starting points for players to build upon
  • Weighty lists of spells and enemies to encounter
  • A baked-in plane-hopping setting which draws you into the world and allows you space to build upon its sturdy foundations

Reviews and related media:

"Troika!,... is one of the best rules-lite systems out there right now."

There Will Be Games

"Troika! feels damn good. I love the matte softness of its pages, the warmth of its colours. Something about its palette really edifies the art by Jeremy Duncan, Dirk Detweiler Leichty, Sam Mameli, and Andrew Walter; a veritable dream team."

Zedeck Siew

"Imagine, if you will, that Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett have returned from the dead. They both pile into a Ford Cortina and take a long drive across the American Southwest, pondering the nature of the fantasy genre. Once they arrive in California, they legally acquire several ounces of the finest cannabis sativa and hotbox the Cortina. Then they write an RPG. This, roughly speaking, seems to be what produced Troika, a delightfully simple and delightfully absurd game."

',,,its really good. And different. And weird. You should buy it.'

- Technical Grimoire

"It feels decadent and almost febrile, the same way David Lynch's underrated adaptation of Dune does; I imagine the world of Troika! is hot and sweaty and everyone is struggling under some sort of summer cold."

'Troika! is just a delightful game. The art is fantastic and weird; really setting the tone for what to expect. The physical book itself of great quality, it feel like it's going to last for a long time'

'Troika! is just the right amount of silliness for the tabletop. It's low-key on information overload for the players, keeping character creation fairly short and dodging the tropes that come with current day RPGs'

'As a game, Troika! is a blast to play. As a book, it's a blast to read. As a design space, I'm addicted. You owe it to yourself to check this out.'

So weird

I've described TROIKA! to myself, to friends, to no one as I try to figure out how to describe TROIKA!. I always come back the word 'weird'. Importantly, never in a bad sense. TROIKA! is a wonderfully weird game, from its setting, to its character options, to its initiative system.
TROIKA! is really really weird and you should really really get it

Special Edition

My package traveled from a place famous for it drizzles, across an ocean famous for its wetness, to my home famous for its destructive storms. As you might imagine by the focal topic of this review thus far, my package arrived a bit damp. At first, I'll admit I was a bit disappointed to receive a special soggy edition of the new Troika!, but now that this bad boy has dried out, I actually really like the effect for reading this book.

Now, I'm not saying you should all run out to dunk or sprinkle your own copies just to have one more like mine, but I am saying that I feel like mine is a little special, a little more unique and just for me.

It's a splendid book; wet, dry, or digital. I was skeptical of the new edition's new art, which is why I delayed purchasing. While I can't say I prefer the new art to the old, I can say I prefer having both sets to draw inspiration from. Furthermore, this new edition is easier to read, comprehend and use as a game book. For me, at least. The original was a bit rough on my eyes to read. Nowhere near as bad as Mork Borg, but still I appreciate this copy for the ease with which I can shove its word-meanings into the understanding parts of my mind.

I'm reviewing the bundle, which includes Slate & Chalcedony. I'll admit, I haven't spent as much time with it as I have with the Troika! book, but I have flipped through and it looks like a lot of fun. The art in it is tremendous. I can't say how good or not good of an adventure it is, but if the adventure content it half as good as the art inspires, it's going to be fun.

Alright, well, I have to go prepare for a potentially life-ending hurricane now. Thank you for the jolly good books, wot-wot!

This is where you should start

This bundle is a great deal, especially if you want to save on shipping. The books are a delight to own and handle in a physical format. Each one is an instant classic in its own right, sturdy and colorful and chock full of innovative rules, wacky adventures, and tantalizing settings. If you're even moderately interested in Troika!, you need to get this.
